Skip this step if the suspect is known.

Collect trace evidence, including foreign hairs in cases of unknown or acquaintance sexual assault.

1. Put on new gloves.
2. Open a small paper included in the SAEK under the patient’s buttocks.
3. Using a comb provided in the SAEK, comb the patient’s hair or allow them to comb their own hair over the paper. Document self-combing.
4. Bindle the comb into the paper and place in the envelope.
5. Label and seal the envelope with the examiner’s initials.
6. Place envelope in the SAEK.
