Before proceeding, explain the assessment process and the patient’s rights. Then obtain informed consent for each of the following:

• Conducting the forensic medical assessment
• Photographic documentation
• Release of medical forensic assessment information to law enforcement, attorneys and/or the Dept. of Family and Protective Services
